City of the Sun

Biographie

In a few short years the New York buskers City of the Sun have gone from playing on the city's sidewalks to selling out serious music venues such as the Rockwood Music Hall, the Mercury Lounge and the Gramercy Theatre. Along the way they have opened for some highly influental artists such as Gregg Allman, Marky Ramone, and Greensky Bluegrass.

The band are familiar faces on the New York music scene and even though they have enjoyed significant chart success can still be found playing impromptu gigs and jams at public locations throughout the city. They gained valuable exposure when they were asked to play at the influential TED conference in 2013. TED is a media organisation which operates under the slogan 'ideas worth spreading' and the band's association with the company has opened up a huge potential audience. As the buzz surrounding City of the Sun began to grow the band were signed up by innovative record company Chesky Records, a label who specialise in high definition recordings of the artists across a variety of platforms.

In 2016 the band's debut album for Chesky titled 'to the sun and all the cities in between' entered Billboard's Jazz Chart at number 12.
