Biographie

Julia Carin Cavazos, aka Julia Michaels, is a Grammy-nominated American singer-songwriter of Puerto Rican heritage who was born in Iowa but grew up in Santa Clara, California. She began singing and writing songs as a teenager and contributed songs to television shows including the title song 'Can't Do It Without You' with Mike McGarity and Joleen Belle on the series 'Austin & Ally' sung by the show's star Ross Lynch. Other artists who recorded her songs with accompanying videos include Rita Ora, Hailee Steinfeld, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Britney Spears, Janelle Monáe, Shawn Mendes and Glowie.

Her 2017 single 'Issues' went to number four on Billboard's Mainstream Top 40, number seven on the Dance/Mix Show Airplay Chart, number eight on the Adult Top 40, number ten on the UK Singles Chart, number eleven on the Hot 100 and number 16 on the On-Demand Streaming Songs Chart. The release was nominated for a 2017 Grammy Award for Song of the Year and she was also nominated as Best New Artist. The song appears on her seven-track 2017 EP 'Nervous System', which peaked at number 24 on Billboard's Digital Albums Chart and number 48 on the Billboard 200.

She features on Kygo's 'Carry Me' (2016) which went to number nine on Billboard's Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales Chart and number 16 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Chart. Her single 'Worst in Me' (2017) reached number 29 on the Adult Top 40. She features on Keith Urban's 'Coming Home' (2017) which peaked at number eleven on the Hot Country Songs Chart and with Miguel on RL Grime's 'Light Me Up', reaching number 12 on the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales Chart and number 18 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Chart. She also features on Clean Bandit's 'I Miss You' (2018) which went to number four on the UK Singles Chart and Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales Chart, number six on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs and Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs charts, number 17 on the Dance/Mix Show Airplay Chart and number 27 on the Adult Top 40. 'Hurt Somebody' (2018) with Noah Kahan reached number 35 on the Adult Top 40.

Her tracks 'Heaven' and 'Are You' feature on the soundtrack of the 2018 feature film 'Fifty Shades Freed'. She has toured internationally with Shawn Mendes, Niall Horan, Maroon 5, Keith Urban and Pink. In 2019, she featured on James Bay's 'Peer Pressure', which hit number 35 on the Adult Top 40. Her 2019 EP 'Inner Monologue, Pt. 1' went to number 17 on the Digital Albums Chart and her schedule for that year included appearances at venues in Atlanta, Baton Rouge, Tulsa, Kansas City, Tucson, Boulder, Salt Lake City, Vancouver and Seattle.
