Biographie

Plus communément appelée Taeyeon, Kim Tae-yeon naît le 9 mars 1989 à Jeonju au nord de la province du Jeolla du Nord en Corée du Sud. D’abord membre la plus importante du girl group de K-pop, Girls' Generation, elle fait également partie des sous-groupes Girls' Generation-TTS de 2012 à 2017, Girls' Generation-Oh!GG, depuis 2018 et du groupe GOT the beat depuis 2022. Entre-temps, la jeune femme a débuté sa carrière solo en 2015 avec un premier mini-album intitulé I, qui se classe n° 2 des charts sud-coréens. Elle obtient son premier n° 1 l’année suivante avec un nouveau mini-album du nom de Why. 2017 est une année faste pour Taeyeon puisque paraît alors son premier album, du nom de My Voice, qui se classe n° 1 et à peine deux mois plus tard, une version enrichie du disque se classe à son tour au sommet, tandis qu’un EP de Noël (This Christmas: Winter Is Coming) se classe n° 2 en fin d’année. Après l’EP Something New en 2018 (n° 3) paraît un second album du nom de Purpose (n° 2) en 2019. Toujours très productive, Taeyeon enchaîne en 2020 avec l’EP What Do I Call You (n° 4) et en 2022 avec un troisième album baptisé INVU (n° 2), qui abrite entre autres les singles « INVU » (n° 1), « Can’t Control Myself » (n° 8) ou encore « Weekend » (n° 4).

After rising to fame with the manufactured South Korean bubblegum band Girls' Generation, singer Kim Tae-yeon took a leap in the dark, dyed her jet black hair platinum blonde, dropped her first name and went solo selling 100,000 copies of her abruptly-titled debut EP, I. The title track went on to achieve over a million download sales earning her Best Female Artist at the Mnet Asian Music Awards. Groomed for success from the age of 15 by the South Korean entertainment giant SM Entertainment, Taeyeon's future was already mapped out for her before she left school. After her success with Girls' Generation she worked on a number of projects within the SM Entertainment empire including performing voiceovers for the Korean dubbed versions of the Universal Pictures Despicable Me franchise. The accolades from Korea continue to pour in for Taeyeon and, according to her record company, she was voted as the number one K-Pop vocalist by a panel of anonymous South Korean Music Industry officials. In 2016 she was voted as the Best Female Vocalist In Their Twenties by a select group of South Korean record labels which included SM Entertainment. Forbes Korea now list the singer in their top 40 Power Celebrity rankings.
